President Tom Ries Awarded Ph.D.
The Reverend Thomas Ries, President of Concordia University St. Paul, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development at commencement ceremonies on May 15, 2014. He successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation Correlations Between Strategic Planning and Financial Performance: A Focus on Lutheran Institutions, thereby fulfilling all requirements for the degree.
“I am obviously very happy to have completed this important milestone and grateful to the Board of Regents, Concordia faculty, and many prayer partners who have supported me in this long and demanding process,” Ries said. “The experience has heightened the already high esteem in which I hold the many Concordia faculty members, who have also successfully achieved terminal degrees in their respective fields. Our students are the beneficiaries of their expertise, as they in turn pursue their educational aspirations.”
Ries has served as President of Concordia University since 2011. He previously served the University as Vice President for Finance and Operations, leaving to become President of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod Foundation in St. Louis, Missouri from 2004 to 2011, and returning to Concordia three years ago as the University’s ninth president. Ries also holds the degrees of Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota.
