Gimbel Accepts Call to Presidency of Concordia Lutheran Seminary Edmonton
Former Professor Rev. Dr. Jim Gimbel ('81) accepted a divine call to be president of Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He completed his full-time service to Concordia University, St. Paul at the end of 2013 and will be installed as the sixth president of CLS on Feb. 2.
Gimbel served as a professor at Concordia from 2002-2013 where he did extensive work in leadership and management. Prior to serving at Concordia, he was a senior editor of youth, family and Sunday school materials for Concordia Publishing House in St. Louis. He was also a parish pastor in North Dakota in the early years of his ministry, and has assisted congregations, districts and educational institutions in conducting self-studies and conflict resolution.
Gimbel, an Iowa native who spent his formative years in Minnesota, received his bachelor's degree from Concordia University, St. Paul and his pastoral training at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He earned a Ph.D. in 2002 from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. He is married to Jill (née Rosenwinkel), and they have three grown children: Andy, Abby (’07) and Joanna (’09).
